Wait, Los Angeles has a river?

Platform: Augmented Reality

Methods: Qualitative Research

Project Type: Science Communication

Responsibilities: Instructional Design, User Research, Project Management

Background: The LA River Augmented Reality mobile app was created to explain why the LA River is largely an (iconic!) concrete channel, and invite people to imagine new possibilities for it as the city and climate continue to change. The app had to distill technical material and thousands of years of history for a general audience, prioritizing students in the LA Unified School District.

Action: As an Associate Producer with Vrai Pictures, I worked closely with subject matter experts and our development partners at Superbright to develop concepts, write the scripts for voiceover, collaborate on the design of interactions and multimedia featured in the experience, conduct usability testing and revise designs based on feedback.

Result: The LA River Augmented Reality mobile app, created by Vrai Pictures and Superbright with support from Verizon, launched in spring of 2018 at the Summit Festival in LA.
